Default Convince me I need 6.1!

I moved this post here as it is really a separate issue from ordering confusion...

I'm not knocking PT. I love it. I just want to understand the need for 6.1 for my purposes. So convince me...

Aside from rewire what is so great about 6.1?

As for tracks, the multiple playlist feature already accomodates this better IMO.

As for cosmetics, without seeing the new console I guess I can't comment, but cosmetics in and of itself is not enough for me to plop down $75. Especially before plenty of Windows users are operating without hitches... So what's so great about the NEW LOOK? Screenshots anyone?

Midi? Groove this? A feature that will go unused by the vast majority of users. I might use it someday, but again not enough to make me want to jump to a new release for $75. However it seems to me like there are some real basic MIDI features that to me would have been worth $150 upgrade: namely patch recognition and scoring!

Beat detective? Maybe I've needed that a few times...

What exactly is Digibase File Management and why do I need it? If you organize your sessions properly, is this really that big of a plus?

Post production features... don't need 'em... at least not yet.

Command focus... cool but I already seem to function without it...

Time/Compression.... this might be handy...

And exactly WHAT new plugins am I getting for PTLE for Win? That seemed a bit vague to me...

And did I hear the mention of dongles? UUUGH!

So what am I missing here? What features are you the most excited about? Give me some reasons to plop down $75...

Again, I'm not knocking PT. I love it. I just want to understand the need for 6.1 for my purposes.

Unless there are some really cool new plugs the only thing I see that is potentially significant is rewire. And as of yet I am not utilizing anything that could make use of that.

I don't know about you but I have not really gotten into midi quite yet accept for Sampletank free(which I think is pretty cool). This makes Rewire worth all the $75 its gonna cost me to upgrade. I love Reason 2.5 and now I'm gonna be able to bring it on home . Maybe I'm the one they are targeting on this one

Yeah.. it seems like rewire is the biggest plus for those who use it... and I'm thinking seriously about setting up a second machine with Sonar just for MIDI and softsynths...

So how would that work?... If my softsynths are on another machine... does rewire help me get them there with less latency or something... or am I missing the whole point which is that the soft-synths are residing on the same machine?

DONGLE An early 1992 advertisment from Rainbow Technologies (a manufacturer of dongles) claimed that the word derived from "Don Gall", the alleged inventor of the device. The company's receptionist however said that the story was a myth invented for the ad.

If someone needs to convince you that you need something then you don't need it.

I don't need it myself, but I'm going to get it. I'm one of those geeks that's got to have the latest version of everything!

the new plugins that are included now with PT as of 6.X are the D-FX ones (i forget what they include, i think chorus, dverb, and two others), and the completely new Click Plug-in.

i myself am not going to buy the 6.1 upgrade. no, i'll wait til i upgrade to the 002R. but for me, i'd say the advantages are the following;

rewire, track voices, one version for all LE products, and the fact that you can now choose to use up to 99% of your CPU if you wish.

but yeah, if you're doin' fine with 5.3.1 or whatever, and don't particularly need rewire, then you should be fine.

Hello. Steve I answered some stuff on the 6.1 thread. I am with QuikDraw on this one. Nobody really should convince you of anything you probably don't need or want. I usually just always get whatever upgrade or update is offered for any software, regardless of what it is. And besides, you will have to upgrade eventually at some point.

Well I don't know how much of this got put in the LE version if any did, but early on they were talking about having a import function that allowed you to import the information from other sessions. So say you have a band recording 10 songs. Instead of setting up the session 10 different times. You set it up once, go ahead start mixing, then when your ready to move on to the next song you make a new session then just import all of the features from the last session. The information would include # of tracks, and what level they were at as well as what pluggins you had on them. There was sapposed to be a whole ton of information that you could import. It sounded like a great feature to me that would save a ton of time, but like I said I don't know how much of that if any got put in the LE version. Originally they said we would be able to import some of the information but that was a long time ago and I don't know where they stand on this now.
