Default 002 RACK AS A STANDALONE SOUND CARD

iM Trying to use my 002 rack to also be the default Audio In on my computer. I want to be able to run music through the 002 and have any program in Windows recognize it as a input source....

Right now the audio is coming through fine in the Pro Tools program. But i have a radio program and when it looks for audio streams it only recognize my on board snd cards. I have two of those.... A RealTek snd card and a Sound Blaster.

How can i make the 002 the default sound card for input and output of Audio in Windows XP

thank You

Read the "Windows Audio Driver Guide" that was installed with the Pro Tools software (asumming you are using the latest version, 7.3, which you didn't mention), and available from the Windows Start menu. That will cover how to set up the 002R as the default soundcard.

You are not, however going to be able to use it as the default audio input for every windows program; only those that use the ASIO driver. The Digidesign wavedriver (the driver that is used for the default windows driver) is playback only.

You can always route the output of your other sound cards into the RCA jacks and use the alt source button.

Thanks for the help thus far....

I'm using Pro Tools 7.1

Here's a little more detail about what i'm trying to do. I have a cd player and mic running through a mixer that is outputted to the digi 002.

In windows I have Windows Encoder that i'm using to send a live broadcast across the internet. When Windows Encoder looks for Source Input it only recognize My REaltek and Sound Blaster Cards.

How do i find out if a program is AISO compatable??? What about the Wave Driver....is that suppose to work with the other programs?

Read the program's documentation, search the program manufacturer's website, contact the program's manufacturer.

As I mentioned, it is designed to work with other programs by being the default windows sound card, but as a playback only driver. No input. No recording through the Digidesign hardware by programs that rely on the default windows input as a recording source.

Are you talking about the Windows Media Encoder? That relies on the default windows input for it's input; you will not be able to use the Digidesign hardware for that purpose directly. You can route the output of the Digidesign hardware to one of your sound card inputs.
