Default VocALign for looping dialogue?

I'm trying to help a friend do some dialogue replacement on a low budget movie he shot.

I was under the impression that VA could do this, but I've found it often doesn't seem to work. I'll process and spot the new audio and it doesn't sync up. SOMETIMES it does, but quite often it doesn't.

Does anyone have experience with this? Does the TimeMod function work better for this purpose (I haven't tried the TimeMod function yet). If it does, is the TimeMod complicated to work with? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.

I'm extremely underwhelmed by VocAlign, which is why I haven't actually purchased it. I found that syncing up manually (editing consonant sounds to match and time compressing / expanding and such) did a better job than VA. Someone on the DUC did suggest using VA on smaller chunks of audio instead of trying to do the whole line in one go. Sounds like more work than editing to me.

i was excited about it before I used it, but in addition to sometimes not getting good sync, it leaves a lot of artifacts that are just too noticable

Thanks for the responses. I'm probably going to end up cutting it up into smaller chunks, though when I get time I'll read about the TimeMod function. I'd do that now but I'm just SO sick of reading software user guides I'm about ready to ram my head into a tree stump (I'm in television production and it seems like EVERYTHING is done on computers these days -- my life consists of having to learn new software and systems).

Anyway, if the TimeMod thing is something of a breakthrough, I'll be sure to let y'all know.
