Fireface Adat into 002R?!
Hi folks. I have my ADAT2 port in/out hooked to my Digi 002R, so I can use the FF converters. I can't seem to get an ADAT signal INTO the 002R. I have signal coming into the FF and it shows on the FF mixer. I've tried raising every possible fader on the bottom of the FF mixer and sending the analog input out to ADAT2, but nothings coming into the 002R. I've tried assigning each ADAT input bus to a record fader in PT 7.4 LE too...nothing... The reverse if fine though, I can easily set the 002R to send ADAT signal to the FF and the FF spits out the analog signal at any analog output I want... what step am I missing here? thanks!

I have not used the ff but I will take a stab at it. If you have software for the ff that allows setup, assign 8 analog inputs to ADAT output 1. No open protools and got to the I/O setup page and Input tab. That is where you add the paths for inputs 9-16(which are the ADAT inputs). When you assign the input paths like this, you can also name them whatever you like(maybe FF-1, FF-2, FF-3, etc. or Kick, Snare, Hat....you get the idea).

Perhaps you have a sync problem? Pro Tools won't show you anything coming in digitally if you don't have the appropriate settings in Hardware Setup.
Maybe? |

Thanks folks...
I'll have to dbl-check my settings again, I thought everything is hooked correctly... I'll let you know what I find out!

nope. Everything is setup properly. Absolutely no signal coming into the 002R via ADAT. The Fireface mixer is set to pass analog 3 to ADAT out 3...signal shows on the FF mixer...
but the 002R has no clue that there is a signal coming in. Routing i/o in PT is set, input on audio track set to ADAT 3...record enabled...and nothing!! WTF?!? FF is set to sync via ADAT to 002R master.

Don't you have to set the FF as master if it is sending adat to the 002? Try that for grins.

NOT WORKING!!!?!?!?!?!? THis is REALLY starting to PEE me OFF!!!!!!!!!! WTF is going on? What am I missing? What step have I forgotten??!?! 002R STILL doesn't recognize ADAT input when set to ADAT sync either.... I changed lightpipe cables and everything...I am going insane now... is it impossible to use the ADAT inputs? Have I wasted my money on the 002R when it only half works?!? PLEASE someone who HAS A 002R, let me know how you get ADAT inputs!! PS: ADAT outputs work fine...it's just input into PT mixer from ADAT...

1. connect your ADAT cables from FF800 out to DIGI Optical IN, DIGI Optical Out to FF800 Optical/ADAT in ( NOT sure why your using ADAT port 2 here as the DIGI only has ONE ADAT port?) Usew the first ADAT port on the RME for now Anyway hook it up to ADAT port 1. If your selecting ADAT channel 3 then its NOT going to see it if your hooked up to ADAT port TWO as those will be ADAT 9-16. 2. Open up your Totalmix on the RME and get signal coming into your analog input, turn up the gain on the channel and set its output to whatever ADAT port your using, in this case ADAT 1-8. Now ;you should have signal coming in and going OUT the ADAT port 3. In Protools, go to your your Setup/hardware and make sure its set to Optical =ADAT 4. Next go to your Setup/I/O and select your INPUT tab. Click DEFAULT do the SAME for your OUTPUT TAB 5. Create your AUDIO track in Protools and assign the INPUT to be ADAT whatever you used, record enable the track and you should have signal Hope this helps. I think the problem here is that you have your ADAT cables hooked up to ADAT port B on the RME and your wanting to select ADAT port A for your I/O. You should be able to route anything on hte RME to the ADAT A port out I would think. Hope this helps, if not, lets keep it going till it does

What sample rate are you using?

Thanks everyone for your help...
I have ADAT2 port hooked up (on my fireface) because ADAT 1 is taken by my ADA8000. The fireface support TWO adat ports (for a total of 16 digital ins/outs, along with it's 10 analog in/outs). Totalmix shows signal going from analog in 3 TO ADAT2 out 3 perfectly fine. I think I'll try again to setup the digi 002R to ADAT sync, and then shut down and reboot PT...perhaps that will work? Although the digi 002r sync'ed perfectly when I tried it already, meaning it's 'seeing' something at ADAT IN...but just not the signal...hmmm.... I'm running 44.1k sample rate... I'll try changing to ADAT1 on the fireface, and re-doing the whole process from the beginning. (with 002r sync to ADAT)... hopefully that'll work...it's fine if I use my ADA8000 on ADAT2 of the FF...I rarely use it anyway.. here goes nothing!...
