Default imported movies only play when soundtrack is deleted. WHY?

I searched the DUC to make sure I wasn't going into something that's already been covered, but so far I haven't seen anyone else addressing this issue.
I have PT 5.1.1 LE on a 400mHz G4 with 448MB of RAM, and I'm noticing that when I import Quicktime movies for use in a session, they render the session completely unplayable UNLESS they don't have a soundtrack.
In my attempts to troubleshoot this, I curiously deleted a Quicktime file's soundtrack, and voila, it imported and played just fine in the session. And I'm not using that big a file either. We're talking 320X240.

Anyone know what this is about?
