great small setup

Do to a major change in my life I am in need of a better setup at home.
I have always had access to the best stuff at the studios I work at and have always had a small setup at home. Currently my home studio has very good monitors a treated room Pro Tools 7.4 with an iMac 1.25GHZ with 2 gigs of ram and a mBox mini.
I mainly work on my stuff at home but I will be expanding to two rooms and want to specialize in acoustic stuff.
I want some really good converters and preamp.
I have a VLA PRO and a VLP Pro and they are good but not great.

Could I get an Apogee setup to work with an 002 or 003

Any suggestions will be helpful

I use an Apogee Mini-Me with my 003R so any time I'm tracking just one or two inputs at once I get the Apogee quality pre-amps and A/D conversion. Plus it is the clock source at all times (clock and signal both go down the one spdif link which is not ideal but it's still a better clock source than the 003 internal). I think they've discontinued the Mini-Me's now though, shame.
If you want a larger setup, you can hook up a Rosetta using ADAT and add 8 channels of better A/D (only at up to 48KHz). You'll have to put pre-amps in front of this of course.

It's all about budget and how many channels you're looking to get to a high quality.

Many on these forums talk about Black Lion mods which improve the quality of the 002/003 itself, maybe a good option if you're in the States?
