Default 2021.12 on Mojave - MP3 corruption and glitching

Hi guys

If you are running Mojave please do NOT install 2021.10 or 2021.12.

Workspace: MP3 preview in Workspace sometimes produces LOUD random digital garbage, or strange clicks, pitch shifting, random loops. Behaves differently each time clicked. Clicking anywhere in the waveform starts playback from the beginning.

AAF: Some mp3 files in AAF imports also get corrupted - clicks, random jumping around to other bits of the song, glitches, pitch-shifting. What the heck guys!?

*EDIT - the files may have been corrupt prior to the editor putting them on the timeline or something may have gone wrong when exporting the AAF.

I have uninstalled, trashed all preferences and databases, restarted, reinstalled, re-indexed etc, same nonsense.

Everything has been fine with mp3's for how many years? Now all of a sudden there is this massive dealbreaker. I shall be rolling back to 2021.7 until Avid decides to "unbreak" things that have worked flawlessly for many years. Is this how to force people to keep "update" and support plans active? Honestly NOT impressed at all. I've been using PT since v7 and have never experienced anything like this.

Just a warning for Mojave users. Users on Catalina and Big Sur apparently do not experience this.

PLEASE FIX!!!

Mac Pro 2013 Trashcan, Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6

Join the club! Import Audio was broken several releases ago and there doesn't seem to be a plan to fix it any time soon, if ever - I've given up on it. The workaround works a lot of the time, but not always. Really disappointing.

Guess you're gonna have to either use an earlier version as you said (while missing out on the new features of the current release), change operating systems, or use a 3rd party app to create MP3's. Good luck!

Also happening in 2021.7 - I am honestly ready to change careers or take a few months off to learn Nuendo (which is actually affordable) and really amazing for post from what people say.

Another interesting one is dragging an mp3 onto the timeline from workspace and then getting a "1 audio file is missing" message. The file goes italic and is no longer accessible, so I can't even "reveal in Finder" to convert to a wav.

My best Pro Tools experience to date is 12.5.2 on my Yosemite Crackbook Pro! Zero b.s.

Why do they 'break' things? because the coders dont understand audio, they came from some other background.......'who cares about timing?'

FWIW This is happening on my system with Catalina 10.15.7 & PT versions 2021.10 & 2021.12.

Will only play mp3's from beginning of file when clicked on in Workspace (after all the garbage digital noises I get on the first click attempt)

Is this still a thing?

I’m on Mojave 10.14.6 and PT 2020.12.1, rock solid, but I might have to move up to a 2021 version for plug-in compatibility. If so, would 2021.7 still currently be the best option for Mojave?

This issue was raised in multiple threads, in at least one of them it was discussed as a know problem that jeffro had discussed with engineering. See https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=417555

Jeffro any chance of an update? Bug number?

A bunch of my sound effect libraries were ripped from CDs as mp3s years ago - this glitch is such a nuisance as I use the Workspace Browser to preview and drag and drop sound effects into my projects. When I accidentally preview an mp3 I get a lengthy beachball followed by digital garbage.

I'm thinking of just batch converting the mp3's in my library. Does anyone know of a good batch converting app? I used BarbaBatch years ago but I don't really want to pay for it!
