Default Whats The Entry Level Digidesign Product Now?

My best friends twin boys are interested in getting started with DAW. they have a new P4 Dell 2.0 comp.

I think the 001 is way to overkill $$(especially if they lose interest with this direction) the Mbox might be more like it but still a bit pricey for starters (will it work with a desktop?)

Is the Toolbox discontinued as i believe it might? or is there even a non digi option for less $$
thanks all

I would suggest an AM3 card off of e-bay. They can get one for under $100. If they like working with Pro Tools, they can put the card up on ebay again and get a mbox or 001. And with a dell, well, it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get... It may or may not work with Pro Tools. Tell them to read the compatability docs... Hope this helps,

Mat

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I did. Sat down for a while answering about a device more thoroughly than what manufacturer provides, but the kids didn´t even react so that I don´t know if they ever read all that typing.

I'd say the Mbox.

$450 for a USB I/O box that comes with PTLE.

I can't think of a better place to start if they don't want to go with the 001.

I second that. If they decide they don't want it, I'm sure they would be able to sell it on ebay, or somewhere else pretty quickly.

Or something like Cubasis, maybe all the free plugs and instruments are more suitable to their
needs. When they get serious about it they can
move on to Cubase SX - Mbox - Digi 001.
