Default Newbie question about custom virtual instruments

So I've just set up my new ProTools LE / MBox 2 and Axiom 25 and I am loving all the tools. I've spent the last 24 hours researching if it is possible to use a recorded FX to create a virtual instrument using my midi keyboard. I'm wanting to record a FX sound, map different pitches of that sound to my keyboard and then use that result as an instrument.

Is this possible in ProTools? and if so how?

Thanks in advance for helping out this newb.

Strukture FREE that is,
it should already be included in your installment.

Try it first to get at taste of it and if you like the flavor.

:)

also this blog has some nice tutorials:

Maybe you want to take a look at Transfuser. It´s really fun to play with it.

Personally I would not invest too much into Digidesign/Avid AIR Instruments. Development/Bugfixing is somewhat lacking.
The problem is, the only other options for ProTools are about NI Battery and Kontakt.
I also use Structure LE. you can get a 2nd hand i-lok license for less than $40 from ejwells, dutchmuzic or happyland or other trustworthy menbers here on the DUC Buy & Selll section.

oh... and you need an iLok-Dongle (www.ilok.com) to run 99% of all RTAS Plug-ins available
my $0.02
