Default Can't decide on an interface?...

Howdy guys!

I'm going to buy pro tool 9 next month once I get my Fafsa check from school,
but I'm having trouble deciding on my first interface.

I've been looking at the new Fast Track C600 which seems pretty nice since, it has four faders as well as Four-Mic Pres and has some pretty neat features.

but then again, I'm not sure if i should spend the extra cash, for a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 which has more I/O.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks :d

I guess it depends on the amount of I/O you need, and what you need the set up for,the Saffire 40 i hear is real nice, but has a few bugs with PT9.

What about the MOTU stuff. Depends on how many I/O you need... They have many models.

MOTU 896 mk3 Hybrid - It has the 8 mic pres like the Focusrite Saffire 40. This is the one I use joined up with a Focusrite OctoPre mk2 Dynamic. Total it gives me 16 mic pres and plenty of additional I/O. Analog & Digital.

MOTU seems to integrate very well with PT9.

The wonderful thing about Pro Tools 9 is...YOU NOW HAVE YOUR CHOICE! The worst part about Pro Tools 9 is.....NOW YOU HAVE CHOICES TO MAKE! There are many incredible products to look at and consider, all which have their pros and the cons. So, what is it that you need to do with this interface? How many inputs at a time do you need? Are you recording other people? What kind of budget are you working with? What do you have currently?

IMHO, I think your money is better spent in high quality pre amps...
Get a good interface but dont blow the budget-- MOTU stuff is good, and honestly some of the M audio cheaper firewire stuff aint bad...

I think you will HEAR a difference with a cheaper interface and a really nice pre amp+mic, vs an expensive interface and a pos pre amp...

Any Focusrite Saffire or even scarlett are the best sounding converters ive heard until you get HD,ive used 003 ,Liquid 56 ,MOTU traveler, and even echo and Emu stuff back in the day,get HD or focusrite you wont be dissapointed.

Thx for the advice.
I'm on a $500ish price range on an interface and I need one that will benefit me in the long run and is good quality. The mk3 is kind of out of my price range but think the pro 40 will satisfy My needs.
I need the interface for recording and experimenting on my own as well as recording a couple of friend's bands.
