Default Windoz' PT HD Now gHetto and It's All Good

Now that PT HD for Windows has gotten so much cheaper due to prices of used HD PCI Cards anybody can get in the game. Heck with 192 I/O's going for less than 1200, really who can't get in the HD game? Just build yourself a Windoz' Machine and you're good to go. Not much cash, but some amazing performance and reliability. This could be the next Reality Show, right up there with Swamp People, which I love to watch!

How about some folks shelling out some success stories and list what it cost you to go HD lately:

Computer $$
Cards $$
I/O $$
Total $$

Comments:

Let's hear it!

Hey Barry, three thoughts jumped to mind immediately, motherboard PCI support is dwindling by the day, HD3 would be required minimum for any serious work and thirdly why bother when HD Native is on the market.

Look at the threads that dominate the windows hd forum, tons of people doing this. I have an HD2 and I do serious work. I hardly use TDM plugs, no need with processing power today.

Granted. If I was setting a move to Pro Tools HD hardware, currently even a secondhand HD2 system (Accel Core card and Accel Processing card) both needing to be PCIe given that motherboard manufacturers are not supporting backward compatibility with PCI is still roughly twice the price of a secondhand PCIe Native card. I/O hardware and computer a side, I think HD Native card still offers the better deal.

well - i'm impressed

Qualified Computer - Dell 690, 2 X dual 3.2 gigs = $350 (ebay)
10 gigs of ram (needed to add 4gigs to the 6 that came with the dell) = $80
2 extra harddrives (now total of three) = $200
1 pci hd core card = $689
1 pci accel card = $618
1 digi 192 digital = $799
1 pt hd 8.0 ilok authorization (upgraded for free to 8.1.1 on avid website)

all in at under $3k - I'm not complaining

Can I just say that good on those guys that do seek the bargain, I'm not against that, I just think PCI is on borrowed time.
