Default Is 8 Core way faster than 4 Core???

I am considering taking the plunge and getting a magma chassis-Intel Mac. I am mainly doing it to use my new logic 9 with my HD system. I want to invest as little as possible. I am looking at getting a 4 Core instead of the expensive 8 Core, but I dont want to waste my money on a system that will be dated in a years time. I have read that the 8 Core doesnt run PT much faster that a 4. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have both and have noticed there is NO substantial speed increase between the 4 core and the 8 core machines.

This may change with Snow Leopard and Grand Central where the Extra cores could be better utilised in the 8 Core.

Keep in mind that the 4 core behaves as an 8 core because of hyperthreading. Not important for pro tools at the moment, but absolutely groundbreaking for any apps that handle multiple threads, which there will be more and more of.
