Inconsistent memory usage PT11.3 OSX10.10
So over the last week I've been running some preliminary tests on a USB 3 test drive. My system information is in my sig, and for those of you on Tapatalk:
MBP 15" Mountain Lion 10.8.5, i7 2.6Ghz, 8Gb DDR, 750Gb 7200rpm internal, PT 10.3.8, PT 11.2.2 (test), Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Focusrite Octopre MkII, Avalon 737sp Glyph GTP50 1TB, DW drums, Fender Guitars, AKG, Rode, Sennheiser, Rapco Iso/split, M1 Active monitors, Equator D5 monitors I have come across various interesting inconsistencies. The most notable is the one in the tittle. I have attached two pictures of the situation, where I'm getting different results from Pro Tools on the original install vs. the Carbon Copy Clone. If you can believe it, the clone seems to be running much more stable than the original 'clean' install. Has anyone experienced this type of inconsistency with regards to memory usage? You can see that the original install using the exact same session, which consists of my normal template with all my plugs lined up, and one instance of Xpand2!, results in around 43% usage. The session has a stereo Acoustic guitar track recorded, and one vocal track recorded at 24bit/48k. The other tracks are blank. The Clone seems to hover around 18 - 19% memory usage and seems to be more reliable on boot. Meaning that I don't have to reboot the system for Pro Tools to play nice with Xpand (whether it's in the session or not) Anyone else experiencing these kinds of troubles? Great thing is that I still have a stable working 10 system, and so far a stable PT11 system on a 10.8.5 test drive. Really looking to make the jump to Yosemite if I can get it to work consistently. Merry Holiday season!

Re: Inconsistent memory usage PT11.3 OSX10.10
Have you tried holding the shift key while starting up from the non-clone drive? That will clear out and rebuild any cache files the system uses to speed up the startup process. This will be a one-time slowdown at startup, and if one of these cache files is causing the problem, it should resolve it.

I'll give that a try, and continue my test after the craziness that is Christmas. Thank you and happy holidays!

Re: Inconsistent memory usage PT11.3 OSX10.10
An update, I didn't bother trying that on the original install. Had a session so just went ahead and did it on the clone. No problems when it comes to recording audio (which is mainly what I do) I did load an instance of structure on that same session 'Studio Drums' patch and with buffers at 256 it crashed.
Interestingly enough, Pro Tools 10 (although unsupported) exhibits no problems with memory usage and seems stable. Problem being some weird annoying graphic issues with inserts and sends. Starting to think it's time to test on Mavericks and see what I find. Having a system that crashes isn't good for business. Current working system is solid, no matter what I throw at it. But, when you're not too busy it's a good time to do some tests :P Have a feeling I'll end up continuing to use PT 10.3.8 on ML 10.8.5 for quite a bit longer PS...may have an extra PT 10 license for sale if the offer is right
