Default 2 installs

I've had an mbox 1 for a few years now but got an mbox 2 today to replace it.

i'm intending to use the mbox 2 in my 'studio' at home, with pro tools 8 on windows xp. but i was also wondering if i could have a second install of pro tools on my laptop running vista?

does anyone know if this is possible? do i have to choose either xp or vista and stick with that or can i switch between?

also, i'm running a single core P4 pc with 1gb ram. is this gonna be able to handle pro tools 8? if not will a RAM upgrade make it work?

I don't see any reason you can't run one instance on VISTA and the other on XP. There aren't too many VISTA fans on here, though.
The more RAM the better, and extra gig would be a good idea.

A P4 with a gig of ram is a little skinny for the features in PT8, Even more ram (which will help) won’t let you experience it’s full potential.

i dont do many really intensive mixes to be honest. I dont think i've ever maxed out with 7.3. i guess we'll see.

So does Pro Tools 8 for vista and XP use the same installer? (if that makes sense?)

Yes, it does and, yes, you should be able to do what you're planning without problems.

Thanks for responding.

Installed on both systems and it seems to be working no problems. I do keep getting the reduce/increase hardware buffer message a lot on vista though. anybody know if this is a general problem? maybe i just need to have a look at some vista tweaks?

Yes, you should definitely start with the Help Us Help You and General Troubleshooting threads as it's likely something there will fix the problem.
