Saw that!! Still waiting for a vid to be able tell if it's worth it.

On the face of it, it is Waves and they have been known to pick their analogue emulations quite wisely. This box seems quite flexible, I'm hanging in anticipation to see all of its "modes" demonstrated.

Looking forward to compare it to Vertigo VSC-2.

Okay this is what I was waiting for, a more detailed walk through.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9ftjPaQcsw

It sounds a little transistor like, but I don't think its a bad thing, actually. I think its actually quite good at preserving the overall quality of the signal without losing too much of the top end or anything.

It seems to me like its quite a good little multi-functioner workhorse. Looks like its definitely worth a demo. I assumed it would be. It's my impression Waves are very selective about what they choose to emulate, so I'm sure there had to be a reason to emulate this thing.

I remember this thing from the 90s. Always thought of it as a live sound piece.

Apparently a few thought the same.

There seemed to be a lot of misunderstanding of the capabilities of this device because the flexible jumper routings being located on the back of the unit, so they weren't always accessible. At least the plugin now makes the jumper configurability much more intuitive.

Seems this beastie has a few surprises up it's sleeve.

I used this one as a "clean-up" plug at the end of a vocal chain. Worked well. The DeEss section very smooth also. I didn't really feel I got a lot of color from this plugin. That would make sense if it was used in the live environment as I've read in numerous places. From the style of design and it reminds me of a distressor. From what I've been told from a friend of two... DBX, Empirical Labs and maybe one or two other companies all branched out from the same company initially. I don't know all of that to be fact, so I state it as a rumor. But that could explain so similarity in design.

I recently had this on a very blip 8-bit percussive part thinking there is no way I can do much to compress this signal to help add weight to it. I was right.

But then I swiped it over to deesser mode thinking maybe I can just use it to shave off the sharpest transient peaks and boost its energy that way. This did prove to work a lot better in this instance.

Just the benefit of being able to move from compressor to desser, with a limiter mind you, saved me some time stuffing around. This is what I'm beginning to like about this beastie. Once you get past its complexities its really a nice little problem solver.

I recommend sticking it on any track you think is going to prove problematic in the mix, it wont work every time but there's a very good chance that if conventional compression doesn't work, there may be another option there that will... Or you could go all in and just throw something like a C6 on the track.
