New to Virtual Instruments in Pro Tools

Okay so I'm not new to Pro Tools or Virtual Instruments in anyway. However, I am new to using them inside of pro tools. I have been using Reason, garage band and Fl studio for quite sometime now. That being said.

Which ones would you recommend for me to use? As far as I'm aware you can only use Rtas right? So does that illiminate alot of the sounds I would purchase at guitar center?

I do mostly hip-hop, rap, R&B and reggeton beats.

Just looking to see what are the best sounds you would recommend.

I am running Mac 10.5.5 and Mac 10.6.1 On both I am running Pro Tools 8 LE. Looking forward to hearing from you.

If u use REASON, just keep using that via Rewire into PT... & that way u can use what u also have in PT as well...

RTAS is the supported Plug-In format for Pro Tools but VST can be used with a VST to RTAS Adapter.

If one VI currently that could cover a lot of bases I'd recommend Transfuser.

It really depends on what you want to do. All the VI's that come with PT 8 are good and have great usefulness for different kinds of music. I like Xpand2 a lot and use it often. I also like Structure Free a great deal and Russ K and the AIR USers blog have made some unbelievable samples available for it.

ANd ou can use VST plug-ins with a VST wrapper program. Most here would recommend FXexpansion's VST Wrapper program. It allows you to use any VST plug-in or VI right in PT.
