Having Midi Keyboard Problems, Please Help!

Hi

I am very new to Pro Tools and i am trying to get my Edirol PCR-M50 Midi Controller keyboard working with it.
Is there a way to see if it has connected to Pro Tools?
Also how do you allocate a vst plugin or soft synth to it?
