Default Newbie with Error -6002 Problem

Help, please. I have a new system, to run ProTools LE 5.1 and Acid Pro 3.0, machine to be dedicated to DAW. Setup is a custom build:
MB CUSL2-C, (Intel 815EP chipset)
PIII - 1000
256 Mb PC 133 SDRAM
2 40 Gb WD WDMA/100 7200 RPM HD's, 1 for recording only
52X CD ROM
12x/10/32 Creative L. CD-RW
AOpen PA3000+ TNT2 32 MB AGP video
56K Creative V.90 Internal PCI modem

Running Win 98SE.

I was loaded and running, but having crashes running the demo session or recording a new session, with an error message that "PROTOOLS LE Caused an invalid page fault". Called tech support, they recommended reloading OS. OS reloaded, now I have plugged in the Digi 001 card, and on boot get a "Error -6002 Can't Initialize DirectIO" message. No amount of clicking "OK" makes error message go away. I tried moving card to another PCI slot, same result. I see lots of 6002 error threads on the conference, but none that appears to answer this.

I appreciate any help any of you experienced hands can offer. At this point, I'm wondering if the whole thing was such a good idea for a person not expert in PC's in the first place. Thanks!

-This error suggests that Windows is trying to access the Wave Driver at the same time Pro Tools has control over it. Disabling the device in the multimedia control panel tells the operating system to not use the device:

Go to the Multimedia Control panel ( or equivalent in Windows ME )
and choose Devices, Audio devices tab, "Audio for Digidesign
Multimedia devices", Right click properties and choose "Do not use audio features on this device".

NOTE:
-This is a temporary fix and will not allow you to route audio from Acid through the Digi001. However, you shouldmake sure that you can get Pro Tools up and running before moving on.

Brent, thanks for the reply. However, this doesn't appear to be the fix. I don't have ProTools loaded at all (because when I put the card in the box it prevents boot-up), which presumably explains why the wave driver does not show up in the Audio tab under the Multimedia Properties control panel. Any other thoughts with this in mind?

Thanks again.

I would suggest a reinstall of the Wave Driver (you may have to start in Safe Mode if the driver is not loading into Device Manager):

-Open the Windows Folder.
-Choose Tools>Folder Options
-Click on the the View tab and enable “show hidden files and folders”
-Open the Control Panels>System>Device Manager window, expand the Sound Video and Game Controllers list, highlight the Digidesign Digi001 devices and click “Remove.” (If this is not listed, remove the “PCI Multimedia Device” from the Other Devices list).
-Search for the digidesigndalwdm.inf file, place it in the Recycle Bin, empty the Bin and restart the computer.
-When Windows starts up, the Hardware Wizard should launch.
-Reinstall the Wave Driver according to the instructions on page 19 of the Digi001 Quick Start Guide.
