The older Core Duo model MacBook Pro's work just fine, so you shouldn't have any problems at all with yours.

As long as you have SL and the required RAM, external HDD etc. you should be OK.

I should know in an hour or so myself.

I know it's not advisable, but I've been running without an external hard drive (simply too much to plug in when I'm testing), and with my MacBook Pro running a Seagate 5400.6 drive, I haven't noticed anything wrong with it.

I have a studio session next tuesday, so obviously, I'm starting to dust off the external drive, but I don't think the external drive is a requirement so much as "very very very extremely good to use"

I just purchased Pro Tools 9 and one of the machines it will run on is my macbook Core 2 Duo 2.16gHz model, system 10.6

However, when I went to run the installer, it said that the machine had to have 2gigs of RAM before it could install (my machine only had 1.5 gigs so I ordered the required additional ram).

So one thing to keep in mind is that the 2 gig ram requirement is not just a recommendation, it's a real "requirement". The installer checks, and won't install with anything less.

Thanks!

I think that's how old mine is... and I'd keep it if I were you. I've got two ExpressCards for my 15", one is FW400 and the other FW800, just to run external drives for PT. You won't get an ExpressCard slot on a newer MBPro unless you get the 17" model, and that's more than I'd want to spend.

BTW, PT9 works GREAT on my MBPro, even using the internal 7200RPM drive, and PT8 never did that!!

Been running on an A1211 or a few days now and all seems pretty good.

I HIGHLY recommend buying an eSATA card for you express/34 slot and running you audio drives from it. (I'm using a dual port eSATA card which connects to a dual slot Hard Drive dock - no enclosures.) It's almost twice as fast as FW800 and frees up your FW buss for the audio interface.

Forgive the stupid question Eric, but why not just use the FW400 and FW800 ports on the box instead of using the ExpressCards for FW? I've never used them, but I always just assumed they were for larger gear like expansion chassis, etc.

I just read the above post and realized that the FW buss would be used by the i/o. Forgive me, I'm still transitioning from HD2 to LE and don't have all the hook-ups in my head yet.
