Default Random names showing up on never-burned CD-Rs?

I don't know if it's an iTunes issue or not, but I (and other friends) have occasionally put in an unused, commercial, un-named CD-R and it appears on the desktop with a name.

Tonight, I burned a CD-R of a single song using Toast and when I put the CD-R in my G4 drive it showed up on the desktop with the name "Vioma." When imported into iTunes it's listed as a song named "Ykksinkertaisesti," artist "Rohto" and album "Voima."

I googled it and sure enough, "Rohto" is a Finnish band and "Ykksinkertaisesti" was a single by them in Feb of '03! The is no audio on the CD-R except what I burned on the silver labeled "GQ Great Quality" CD-R 52X 700MB/ 80 min disk I bought in a 100# spindle at Fry's.

Anybody know what's up with that?

Hi,

I suspect your computer is accessing gracenote from the internet and getting these names associated with the number your CD burner is giving to your CDR.

Thanks to all. And imperium, you nailed it. It's the CDDB causing it. All should read the link you provided. Much thanks for the info.
