Default Kontakt questions

Ive been wanting to get a new synth lately, a Motif ES, but unfortunatley, my funds are a bit low and Ill have to get something cheaper. So I was thinking about Kontakt. I know its a sampler, but I saw on the Native Instruments page that people exchange their samples or 'instruments' that they create. If I get enough samples, then basically, Ive got a synth, or close to it. But itd be hard getting these samples that other people create, right? The user base on the Native Instruments page doesnt have many.

Anyway, what do you think? And is it a CPU hog?

Thanks

Yes, it is. Don't buy it to use with PT LE.
The only synth that works w/o hogging CPU is Reason thru rewire.
That is $299.- for Digi users.(Upgrade from Reason adopted).

There is a problem with RTAS sytnhs.
However, Digi won't fix it to sell more copies of Reason.
Cheap marketing trick.
I hope they win't loose the 002 sales all together trying to sell more copies of Reason.

I am very close to selling my 002 at Ebay and moving on.

True, but PT 6.9 and upcoming NI updates is supposed to fix the problem. We shall see....

Yes Reason works great but there are others.

Not true for all synths. Spectrasonics stuff works great, Wizoo also.

Well, I have some idea after being on this board for 5 yars and owning many Digi stuff including 001 and now 002.
My experience Digi = Waiting unless you have TDM or HD stuff.
The only thing I do not understand is people who get offended when you point out the truth about their equipment.
It is rather boring and childish cliche really.

Not really. That is a vent and the truth.
I will email you the link when it's up on the Ebay.
Don't make judgements untill you know all the facts.
Have a nice day and enjoy yoour Digi.
Unfortuantely, I can't.

Im not familar with kontakt. but sample tank 2xl and sonik synth are both great alternatives to buying a hardwhare synth. i also have a triton, and find myself using these soft synths more... peace

I have ST XL as well. How many instances can you use before you reach your cpu limit.
In low latency mode I mean.
I am asking because I have not tried it for a while since performance was not happening in PT LE 6.7.
Is it better with 6.9?

Instead of selling my PT LE factory bundle for half of what I paid a few months ago,
I sold my Mac Mini for $700 and built a new Allenstein for that price.
My DaveC score is 32Tracks + 31Aux compared to MacMini's 23 tracks
which was not bad and more than I neede really.

Most importantly for me though, I can run RTAS synths.
I just did a song with 15 instances.
It rocks.
Cubase still performs better which shows RTAS synths have a flaw somewhere.
However, the new system is so powerful that it can still run many even though
RTAS buffering is inefficient.

I kept my powerbook for location recordings and it does audio recording fine.
For RTAS synths and heavy-load mixing I will use my Allenstein.
