Sluggish UI during playback after upgrade to PT11

I recently upgraded to PT 11.3.1 - I still have PT 10 running on the same machine - and the UI is incredibly glitchy and sluggish during playback. Faders jump in chunks while dragging. The same goes for knobs in plug-ins. It doesn't seem to matter if the session has a ton of tracks/plug-ins or if it has just a few tracks. I'm not seeing any spikes in CPU or memory. The UI works fine when playback is stopped. And I haven't noticed any audio glitches yet, although I haven't used PT11 much yet due to the UI weirdness. PT 10 still works fine on the same machine.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz i5 with 8 GB of RAM.

Any ideas? Is there a setting for UI update frequency or prioritization? I've searched the forums but wasn't able to come up with anything useful.

Did you also upgrade to Yosemite? Sluggish UI has been noted by MANY users.

I'm on 10.9.3 which I think is Mavericks? Are you saying that Yosemite might solve the problem or cause it? And calling this "sluggish" is charitable;-)

Yeah it's Mavericks. A lot of users have reported graphics problems in both 10.9 and 10.10, I personally have only experienced sluggish behaviour in 10.10, there is a fix, but it involves a bit of rooting around and installing Quartz Debug - an app available from Apple.

I'd look at a few more basic things first tho. trash your PT prefs http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/...s-preferences/ also, if your system drive is a spinner, defrag it, this often clears up a lot of errors.

Many of us have noticed this behavior with Yosemite and Pt 11. It makes Pro Tools almost unusable.

Hopefully they are working on a fix.

Defrags on a Mac drive don't work nowheres near as well as they do on a drive that works with Windows. I've actually had worse performance after a running so-called defrag programs/utilities. The best defrag to me is to copy all the data off the drive, wipe the drive and re-write the data.

I'm on a clean install with Yosemite and PT 11.3.1 HD and zooming is really slow. Otherwise so far everything is running really good. Better than 10.8.5 for me other than the slow zoom. Would quartz debug help with that?
