Default PT 10.3.2 + CPTK , but SoftwareUpdater does not prompt to update to 10.3.4

Hi !

Mac OS 10.6.8 , PT 10.3.2 + CPTK.

When running the SoftwareUpdater of PT, it says "your software is current", although 10.3.4 is out.
The ReadMe of 10.3.4 says, this update is recommended for all PT10-versions.

Is there a good reason for not telling me to update ?
Should I ignore the message and update anyhow ?

I´m kind of "freightend" to "disobey" the message "your software is current" (10.3.2).

Do we have to have these posts every time a new update is out?

Avid will tickle this to push updates to everybody when they are good and ready and confident that the risk is worthwhile.. You can wait until then or you can read the release notes and evaluate how people here are going using the update and make your own decision.

As with all updates, read the info to see what is "fixed". If nothing applies to you, then updating is totally up to you(but, if it ain't broke...don't fix it). If you decide to install ANY update, have a backup plan in case it goes sour. Mine is to save a drive image of my system drive, or to clone the system drive and update the clone.

No, not everytime a new update is out. I waited for the SoftwareUpdater to prompt me to 10.3.3, did not happen and I did not post my question.
10.3.4 is now the second not-softwareupdater-prompted-update.

I obviously read the release notes, the applicable forum threads, made my thoughts and come to no conclusion : in my eyes this justifies my question about the indecision of announcing a new update versus the SoftwareUpdater not prompting it.

Do we need meaningless answers to justified questions ?

I am hoping for an answer by Avid or someone with the same question and who found a solution.

Read this, after I wrote my reply.
Thanks for the advice about cloning.
Yes, some issues concern me :
Automation breakpoints are no longer incorrectly deleted during sample rate conversion. (PTSW-174707)
This might help my problem :

You got two perfectly clear answers. What more do you want? Other users and Avid staff have explained this exact thing several times before. It is a waste of time to keep answering the same question every time an update comes out. You do realize you can search this forum before posting...

I hope the update fixes your problem. I am quite impressed by Avid focusing on cranking the handle here and continuing frequent updates for PT 10. They just don't have this whole pushing update thing sorted out very well. It really ought to push "recommended updates" on startup etc. and also let users check from within the UI for "minor updates". Drop users directly where they can read the release notes etc.

Yes, that would be nice.

I was confused by the below mentioned thread, where Avid says, updates will go to Autoupdate Notifications, sooner or later.
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t...updater&page=3

And waiting for a prompt by the SoftwareUpdater for months is a little bit too much "sooner or later" .

In another thread, someones question about "updater says you are current, when it is not" was answered "do not trust any autoupdater (Apple, Avid, Microsoft)".

Not really helpful. The SoftwareUpdater is a feature and should work.

Just to add here:
A few days ago (before I updated to 10.3.3) just for grins I opened PT and clicked the menu item in PT to check for updates and it said I was up to date (and this is way before 10.3.4 came out). I knew there was the 10.3.3 update. Went to my account and looked for downloadable items and 10.3.3 was nowheres to be found - it showed 10.3.2.

I know there's been talk here about Avid eventually getting 10.3.3 to show in user's accounts but it looks like that didn't happen, at least in my case and probably other's as well.

Just goes to show Avid isn't exactly on the ball (as we all know) of getting news of updates to us in channels that they themselves tout as a feature (like inside of PT itself rather than having to search their site or in their user account). For regulars on the DUC finding out about updates isn't a problem but for those that aren't on here on a regular basis and expecting to use Avid-touted features - not so much.

Default Re: PT 10.3.2 + CPTK , but SoftwareUpdater does not prompt to update to 10.3.4

I searched for hours ... , nothing. (And nobody prooved me wrong)

Actually, my question should have been :
WHY is it, that the SoftwareUpdater from Avid does not prompt me to update, when Avid is announcing an update ?

If you cannot answer this, replies are not helpful.
If you are not interested in this topic you may also choose not to take part.

(Feels like a bashing, my question is valid/unanswered; not like questions as "why is D not duplicating anymore" or "why cant´t I toggle thru the edit modes anymore" or "please help, cannot hear anything suddenly" )
