basic MIDI question....
I feel like a total dork for asking this because I feel like I should have been able to figure it out on my own and I know it's totally basic, but.... i'm just getting the guts to record using MIDI tracks and I've run into a snag. So I've connected my Roland XP-60 (yeah i'm that old fashioned) to my G4 tower with a MIDIsport MIDIman. All the cables look good, they're connected properly. I went to the MIDI configuration dialogue under the Applications folder and linked up the two machines (you know with the think where you actually connect the lines with the mouse). So when I open up Protools, I create a new MIDI track and it recognizes the XP-60, at least I think, because it shows up as an option when you go to select the input source. however, this is exactly what it says in the input source menu: XP 60 (no channels activated) Does anyone have any ideas of what I'm missing?? How do I "activate" the channels? |

Now maybe, your XP-60's Channel will be active, in both MIDI I/O's. Check MIDI Thru. I hope this helps. filosofem

Re: basic MIDI question....
Just thinking what a dorky sounding word "dork" is!
Anyway, no problem, this is an easy fix. 1) Go back into your Audio MIDI Setup application, 2) Double-click the synth icon. 3) Ensure the 16 channels to send and receive are illuminated. Sorted. Phil

Re: basic MIDI question....
Glad to hear it's up'n'running.
Actually my answer is included in Filsofem's response. Have you got patch names appearing when you open the "patch select" window in Pro Tools? This one's not so dorky to work out.
