Default PTLE 7.4 cs3 Vista 64 Ultimate

Hi there
I have a strange problem:
I have a dual boot system (xp pro+vista ultimate 64bit on 2 different partitions) with PT 7.4cs3 installed on both system and Mbox2Pro.
I've always used PT on XP without any problem and , 2 moths ago I've installed it on Vista 64bit, tried it, worked well then I got back to xp until now
Unfortunately, due to a bios problem, I've had to change motherboard (from Asus P5B to Asus P5K) and the result is that I can't load anymore XP but I can load and work with Vista.
The problem is that , I don't know why, PT doesn't load anymore. After 2 seconds I have a window saying that PT stopped working. The problem event is : APPCRASH , the modul error is: kernel32.dll
The strange thing is that , after installing and trying PT in Vista, I've never opened Vista again until now, so nothing should have been changed
Can you help me?
I'd like not to reinstall XP but I don't know what to do
Thanks a lot

That is indeed strange. I have been running different installation across different versions of Windows OS installed across different partitions.

Have you tried deleting "Digidesign Databases" folder?

Yes, I did it, nothing happened
Do you have some other ideas?

I can't think of anything specific.

Can you access your XP partition when booted into Vista 64 partition?

Also, the crash will be recorded in your system's Event Viewer. If you can find it and paste the contents here, I can try to decipher it.

Thanks

Thanks. It doesn't say much though. Can you just format your XP partition? I have a feeling that may be, PT is trying to access it during launch and doesn't like it.

Have you tried uninstalling, restart and then reinstalling PT?
this would have been my first step

I would only reformat if I was suspicious of the XP install being corrupted for some reason. though I belive it might solve your problem.

If you had to replace a mobo to a diffrent chipset (965 to P35) you might need to reinstall some drivers...
I'm assuming you did and all your hardware is properly configured

What is very strange is that you can run PT in 64bit vista OS that is not supported by DIGI. are you sure you have installed the 64bit ver (ultimate contains both 32 and 64 as far as I know )
How well does PT run under Vista 64? did you do any testing?

Well, first of all my xp partition is still there, even if it's not seen in dual boot (I can only load vista) . Before formatting it , I'd like to try to recover some things that I have in XP, like mails contacts etc.
I'm sure that Vista is the 64bit version (confirmed that I have two program folders: programs (64bit one) and x86 programs (32bit one). I installed PT on Vista 64 bit just to see how well it could work with a 64 bit system and with 4gb of Ram (instead of the usual 3). The strange thing is that I've been used to work with PT under XP so I've never returned to Vista system (that's been left untouched) for a couple of months, and after having this mobo problem I've never succeded in making PT working on Vista again.
I think that both mobos are P35 and both are Asus (P5B the old one and P5K the new one). It's very strange: I think at the end I should format everything and reinstall both xp and Vista (sigh) . Probably this time I will install Vista before XP, it should be better.
PT 7.4 under Vista 64 bit was working very well, I've just had some problems with a couple of third party plugins like Kontakt 2.0 and 3.0, that's why I decided to turn back on XP

Thanks anyway for your efforts and help
Regards
Ufo

You need to remember that if you install xp or vista on a second partition after you already have xp or vista on a first partition, the new installation overwrites the previous boot file. And so you can only access the new instalation, until you replace the boot manager file.

XP and VISTA use different boot files, in vista, the boot file isn't the .ini that is in XP, it is the BCD.

If you cannot access xp from your boot menu, download easy BCD and add the XP partition back to the Vista BCD boot manager.

Also, if you do this, you will have to replace the files 'ntldr' and 'ntdetect' into you SECOND PARTITION DRIVE\ directory for xp to load. They are on the XP installation disc.

If this isn't your problem then ignore it.

If it is, hope you get the idea.
