Default 2021.3.0 Install Issue

trying to install 2021.3.0 on my Windows 10 computer.
Currently have 2020.3.0.
The install begins and seems to run fine, but then when I get to the part where it is going to uninstall the old version I get the Following in a pro tools dialog box: "The wizard was interrupted before Pro Tools could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again".
tried a couple times. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

I did right click on the setup file and clisked run as administrator. I will try uninstalling first. Do I need to uninstall all of the various Avid items (Avid Codecs, Avid Link, Plug-in Bundle, etc. 7 items altogether) or just uninstall Avid Pro Tools and leave the rest?

With 2021.3, you MUST first uninstall any previous version. On Windows 10, this is done in the Programs and Features window(which you get to via the Apps and Features window, in the upper right corner). You also need to remove the HD driver if the uninstall routine offers that option. Nothing else needs to be uninstalled separately, but you MAY want to remove(or trash) Prefs, Database files and such, simply as a "house-cleaning" measure. Of course, that means you would need to reset your Preferences, Midi settings and IO settings(which can be a PITA).

To make that easier, check out the Trasher 3 utility from guitardom(protoolspc.com). It allows you to back up everything so its simple to restore after "house-cleaning". Looks like his site is down today for maintenance, but I expect it will be back up soon

BTW, uninstalling Pro Tools should never have any affect on plugins as they reside in their own folder that remains untouched.
