Not necessarily. Are they both 7200 rpm drives? I've got a 320GB, 2TB and 3TB drive. They're all 7200 rpm and all plenty fast for audio.

I have heard this to be true for SSD's though.

But I don't have one so can't say that I know personally.

Yea, both 7200 rpm's. It was an apples for apples comparison discussion. Thanks so much for the replies.

Looking to pull the trigger on this build by noon (pacific time) today. But what is the difference between these two drives?

The more expensive one has a single platter, the cheaper one has dual platters. The price difference shouldn't be that drastic, though. It should only be a $10-$20 difference.

Thinking of a new build, and can't decide between going for the 4820K (LGA2011) or the newer Haswell 4770K (LGA1150)
Which is the preferred CPU with Pro Tools?

thanks for any tips

Mal

For Pro Tools, my vote is for socket 2011... hands down.

I concur. That socket also supports 6-core i7's and even more cored Xeons. I also have never been a fan of adding a gpu to the same die as your CPU. That said, the new 1150 are pretty solid. But if I was building a machine today it would def be 2011 based.

I would get the Haswell if you are going to do a 4 core.
By time you would change to a new processor you would want the new chipsets anyway.
The Haswell-E versions due out later this year will be the top systems when they are released but will be a new socket - 2011-3.

Thanks for the advice everyone
Dave,is your Haswell build still stable? Is the integrated GPU a problem? (I'd be using my GTX560 anyway) Also I notice the socket 1150 Motherboards have no firewire port, or PCI slot, so I'd have to purchase a PCIe Firewire adapter.
