Would you please tell me what kind of pickups installed on your strat? I generally have a problem with buzzy, muddy sound problem with my strat's neck pickup (and also with my tele). Mine is a 2007 American Series Strat with stock pickups, maple neck also like yours. When i adjust settings as u described i hear nothing but a terrible bzzzzz as i play what you play at the beginning of this video.
