I found that digitest displayed the cards as not in the proper slots when in fact they were in the right place.

That's a known issue with DigiTest on Intel based machines. Just make sure your cards are actually installed correctly - even if DigiTest reports they're in the wrong order, it will still work properly.

The core card should go in the slot next to the graphics card.

What is the plan to solve this problem? We are anxiously waiting. Is there anything we can do to help?

We bought two identical computers for our studios (Mac Pro 2.66). They were purchased at the same time from the same dealer. One room is an HD2, the other an HD3.

The HD3 system was having this problem, while the HD2 NEVER ONCE had it. And now, it's been almost a week since the HD3 has done it, so it seems to have just disappeared... for now. Nothing has been changed since the HD3 system cleared up.

Very strange...
Digi TS,

I have a customer who has just bought a brand new MacPro QuadCore 3.0 Ghz, and HD3. He is experiencing the same startup issue.
Strangely, it is exhibiting the same issue as nhaudio. If he runs it as a HD2 (regardless of which HD Accel card he uses) the sytem boots fine. As soon as he puts the 3rd card in, the problem occurs as per the multitude of posts in this thread.

System info

MacPro Qaud Core 3.0 Ghz/ 4 Gb ram/250Gb/500Gb
OSX 10.4.9
PT HD 7.3.1
HD 3 Accel

Can you let us know where this issue is at.
It makes it very hard for us to sell HD systems if this problem remains unresolved.

I have witnessed it occur on my Mac Pro 2.66 when configured as an HD 1, HD 2, and HD 3. No change in this behaviour now 1 year after purchasing the system. I'm still running OS 10.4.9 and PT 7.3.1cs5.

i can't believe that i haven't read this thread yet - i have had these similar boot problems since i purchased my macpro roughly 6 months ago. It is very inconsistent though...and honestly hasn't happened to me for several weeks now. Typically it will reboot just fine after I force it to shut down. There was one instance however when it happened repeatedly...I know at least 4-5 times in a row ...enough to make me think that I was never getting my computer back! At that point I blamed it on having different external devices attached via usb/firewire etc. - so when I'd unplug those then reboot, it seemed to work. I feel like that's kind of a crap shoot though...so beyond that I'm not really sure what to say/do...probably along with the rest of you.

just thought i'd add my story.

bumping this too.

It's not just the Dual 2.66 MacPros either -the 3Ghz are affected as well.

Hi Digi Support,

I have a new 8 core Mac Pro displaying the same as above... with all 3 HD cards installed
it hangs at boot almost every time... I've had to resort to removing the 3rd card just to get the
system to boot.

I have tried all possible card configs... nothing works?

I'm running 7.3.1 on OSX 10.4.9

I'm aware of 2 other studios in the area having the same problem. Is there a light at the end of
the tunnel for this one?
