Default How do you make a sound on only one side of your headphones?

Sorry, if the title's a little misleading. What I want to know is, how do you record a sound & have the sound only on one side of the track, or hear it only on one side of your speakers while listening. Like an ad-lib. Say i want to say "yeah" on the right, but not the left, then on the left, but no on the right, then so on & so on. I hope you guys understand what I'm saying. I have pro tools MP9 btw

Simple way. Two tracks panned hard right and left respectively.

Alternatively you could automate panning on a stereo track.

The guy's strugling to grasp the concept of panning, dude. Probably also automation.
And he is used to the word 'track' meaning 'song'.

Whoopla:
the round button above the volume fader on a mono channel, or track, with the letters L and R on each side, lets you place the sound in the center or to the sides. It's the pan control, panner, pan.
Stereo tracks (audio/instrument/aux) have two pan controls because they are made up of two signals, left and right.
