Default RIP Taylor Hawkins

https://ultimateclassicrock.com/tayl...fighters-dead/

I had the great fortune of attending Dreamforce in 2015 when Foo Fighters played and it was an amazing show. One of my all-time top favorite bands. They must be crushed right now along with his family. RIP.

This really sux bigtime!!!

Love FF and was looking forward to see them live here in late summer!!!
Can’t take much more of all these guys dying …. One of my REALLY good friends Tim ”Avicii” Bergling died a few years back and now our biggest arena is renamed Avicii Arena and that was a Great step to let young people to watch for depression in their friends and say something.

Tim struggled with major depression and Taylor probably died of an overdose at 50 which is NOTHING …. He should have lived 35 + more years and made more superb music with FF and his solo stuff!

RIP and Thank You for ALL your GREAT Music

When I read the news about Taylor passing it shocked and saddened me. He was crazy energetic on the kit. I understand he'd had drug issues in the past and that he got clean. It might not be an overdose (if drugs were even involved) or even plain drug use but something that was laced with fentanyl. Too much of that going on.

Have never tried to play favorites around here,
but there’s always those people and sessions that are “first among equals“.
The sesh we did with Taylor was one of those magic nights,
that keeps us all coming back for more.

First off, he had an awesome attitude, was very self-deprecating,
with a great sense of humor, and obviously a monster musician.

Doing something I had only ever seen Josh Freese do before,
he went out to his drum kit with only a click track and played through two complete songs with nothing else to cue him;
so he had to have “in his head“ all of the punches, pushes, accents, and fills, that would match all the parts to be added later.
And I’m pretty sure we did this all on analog so less opportunities to cheat.

He then came in and played a monster bass track;
which, traveling light; rather than bring a full rig,
he just plugged it into a line 6, and somehow made it sound fat.
Then, ditto on some tasty guitar licks, where he had all the overdubs already mapped out in his mind;
again just playing through the line 6, but making it sound just right for the tracks.

And finally, anyone who’s ever seen him singing “Queen“ knows he’s a killer vocalist,
so he went out and nailed both songs,
and then mixed, mastered, bada bing, walked out with two completed tracks that night.

Total pro…!

… And, small fun fact – he offered to buy my studio that night, not once, but twice.
The first time I thought he was just being nice, and joking around.
But later he said, “No, really, we had a good year last year (ha!)
And my chick lives down here in Emerald Bay (a part of Laguna Beach)
and this is much more convenient than driving all the way to Malibu…"

Just gutted hearing about his loss…
