Default Upgrading to HD. Please recommend the best Audio Drive.

I’m just about to upgrade to HD. Should I also replace my 60 GB Deskstar for the Audio Drive? What’s the best? ATA, Firewire, Digidrive?

Seagate Seagate Cheetah** from Glyph Technologies.

Sweetwater Sound is a Vendor for them. They are the best. I never use Deskstar drives for anything more than some light audio encoding and Video. Too many problems. But I use them alot..

More money, but never a problem. That's my take.

They are also 15k drives and no issues with track count.

I've gone through 8 of these without a problem. Inexpensive, quiet and no ugly graphics that you're probably paying for....

I have had one (1), not (8), 18GB HD since summer 2001 and never had a problem. I have score 6 films and countless commercials with it. I have however had 3-4 Deskstar's fail on me in important work deadlines. Had to return 2 for repair on warrantee. They are essentially IBM drives, one of which was a bad mechanisms that was quietly replaced by IBM by a newer type of mechanism..the apple tech at the store told me about this after they got it back in.

Hey, If the ATA Deskstar drives work for you ...use em!!! I certainly can concur that they are very quiet. I have isolation for my drives and Mac's

Take Care,

G

Ultra 320 SCSI has the best bang for the buck right now if you need pure spped Recording lots of tracks at once and high edit density. Other than than that if you want cheaper go with Firewire 800. OWC sells FW 800 cards and drives at a good price.
