S3 PC What is anyone using the inputs for?

Since the S3 audio interface is Mac/AVB only, this rather excludes PC users... however the Jigsaw site helpfully suggests "The audio connections can also be used standalone to function as a dedicated monitor controller if you have a PC – you just plug the outputs of your audio interface into the inputs and your speakers into the outputs."
Two questions.
1. Why wouldn't you plug your audio interface directly into your speakers still?
2. What are other users doing? Is there some other natty use for these interfaces for those of us without AVB functionality?

The reason you might route audio from your existing interface through the S3 is that you can then switch between 2 monitors and control volume using the S3. Haven't tried this myself.

It's not clear to me whether using this setup would mean the audio signal goes through an AD/DA conversion? Or is the monitoring signal path completely analogue? I've posted about this before but no info was forthcoming. Would be good to get an answer!

exactly. This way you can control your (L/R) main and alt speakers (if any) and headphones through the monitoring section of the S3, which is quite convenient, as well monitor a second input (in my case a second sound card for all non-PT stuff, or maybe a CD-player for listening to reference mixes in a more music oriented setup)

Could you explain where you saw the article I would be interested in reading it.
Also anyone else using the Mac/AVB as a standalone interface for audio.

The odd thing here is that the S6L runs AVB protocol on Win7 embedded, so the company actually has a working Windows AVB driver, but the live side and the PT side can't seem to meet in the hallway and make the S3 work on Windows. I wanted to use the S3 to control my main rig(HD/Native and HD IO) and use the AVB portion to route audio IO to a second machine(for mastering). Someday............

Actually, its more likely that it will work, but without Avid's help I have found a couple of AVB-compatible ethernet cards(but I don't have an S3 to experiment with)
