Default PT not reliably starting play

Hi All.

I think this problem began to appear for me around 7 or so, it remains in 7.4.
I can load up a new project, no plugs and press play, sometimes it plays, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes I have to hit the play button a few times to get it going.

Doesn't make any difference with audio or instrument tracks.
Have mucked around with buffer settings to no avail.
Also tried different FW ports, no difference.
Performance is stellar otherwise.

But, it's like it's not preloading buffers or something...
What's going on?

I'd be a little surprised if that was the case, 4gb Corsair 800, seems ok with everything else.
What was the similar problem you had?

I have a sneaking suspicion it might be something to do with the Asus P5K onboard sound.
Haven't checked it out full y yet, but seems to happen less when it's disabled.

I had this problem and it went away when I installed the microsoft dual core hotfix.

About the memmoery you can verify you'r memorry buy using memtest 86+. download, then burn a bootable cd, then boot from the cd and let the test run for a couple of hours.

edit: I have networking and sound enabled on my P5K SE (same as P5K but no FW and less sata connectors/no raid...) so I dont think its related to either.
