Automation is Dead; fresh ProTools and system install
Hello,
My automation cannot be written using anything other than the mouse. Can't be written with 002 faders. Can't be written with digital faders inside ProTools. Fader movements are seen by PT but cannot be written. The problem started sometime ago and after doing everything I could to fix the problem I decided to do a complete system upgrade. I installed Mac OS 10.6.3 erasing my disk completely and installed ProTools 8.0.4 I opened a new session and the automation is still not working. There are no third party plugins installed (in fact the only thing I have installed on this disk is the supplied Apple software, Firefox and Chrome). The interface is a 002 desk on which I have run the fader tests on (http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...ite=automation). A point perhaps worth mentioning was that when I selected MIDI under the utilities menu it reported 'Fail'. I doubt this is the problem as the software receives the fader commands, though I thought it should be mentioned. On a similar note the same problem is happening (in software/he has no hardware) on a friends 7.3 system. Thinking back it probably started when using the Uni's HD rig, we both used it and were both working at 96k sample rate. I don't see how it could effect a fresh wipe though... So the required details: MacBook Pro, 2.33ghz, 3gb RAM. OS 10.6.3 002 Desk Pro Tools 8.0.4 Lacie 1TB Big disk connected through FW800 2ft cable Yes I have read the ENTIRE trouble shooting guide; I have resorted to a fresh install of my OS and PT, it is still not working! Please help me; if I can't fix this I can't work... Thanks -Josh Last edited by fishkarma; 08-14-2010 at 01:55 PM. Reason: additional detail about friends system/uni rig |

Re: Automation is Dead; fresh ProTools and system install
Have you checked the automation enable window? You could have automation writing disabled...

Bang on the money.
I didn't realise this window existed, somehow everything but pan was disabled; even on a fresh install of everything. I guess there must have been some preference stored somewhere on the hard drive that kept it like that... Thanks a lot Robo6675, I owe you big time for the saved mental anguish... Keep well |
