WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
Hi DUC,
I have recently tried to use the "pencil tool" to edit a waveform. I wanted to remove a click/pop noise from a region. This is the first time I have needed this tool and to my dismay it didn't work/function properly. I zoomed in to the sample level, selected the "pencil tool" and left clicked/dragged the pencil across the waveform...nothing happened..? I have tried several different sessions, created new sessions, called Digi Tech Support (which cost me $30.00 @ $3.00per/minute and no solution, except maybe they logged it into thier database), reinstalled ProTools, deleted ProTools preference files and nothing seems to help. Does anybody else using WinXP experience this..? Any solutions or different paths to debug will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. My system: Intel Pentium III 866 Asus P3B-F motherboard 440bx AGPset WD 40gig system drive WD 40gig audio drive Asus CD player Adaptec SCSI card LaCie SCSI CD burner Microsoft (Pro) keyboard Microsoft (Intellimouse) mouse Matrox G400 dual video card Soundblaster 5.1 Live sound card Lynksys network card ..besides WinXP and ProTools, the only other software installed is WaveLAB 3.0

Re: WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
Hi nightshade crisis,
Are you still unable to use the "pencil tool"..? Or did you find a solution..? Are you on WinXP..? Would you mind listing your PC specs, maybe we can find some common entity that is causing this Thanks for your reply, I feel better now that I am not alone (I do, however feel bad you are experiencing this too).

Re: WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
hi,
you may want to zoom until the pencil appear darker than when you first selected it. |

Could you elaborate on that a little bit please. Do you mean to say it will only work at a particular "zoom" level (until the tool turns darker..?). I ask this because in Win98se the "zoom" level didn't matter as long as you were "zoomed" beyond the sample level. Are you using WinXP? Have you experienced this problem too in WinXP and that fixed it..? Thank you for your previous reply, but I guess I need some clarification if you would kindly reply again. Thanks so much

Re: WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
Keep expanding the wave until it becomes a line. Grab the pencil and draw away.

Re: WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
git1song, yep, already doing that (I believe they call it the sample level). I used this in Win98se without problems so I am pretty sure I am doing this correctly.
There is a definite problem here with this function on my PC and evidently a few others too. Even from a fresh install I can not use the "pencil edit" tool. ..still hoping to hear more ideas for things to try

Re: WinXP problems with the "pencil tool"...
~Sabe,
if you are you using the pencil to redraw wave forms, increasing the zoom level is the only workaround i know of with my xp setup. but if you are redrawing volume, mute, and pan, zoom level isn't the issue. just curious, is your track view set to waveform? for the record; amd thunderbird 133 epox 8k7a 512 ddr maxtor 30g maxtor 40g plextor12/10/32a toshiba dvd matrox dh g450 agp winxp pro |
