Default different pan settings on same track??

Hey, ive been working with pro tools mp for about 3 months now, and still havent been able to figure this one out.

I know that you can set pan levels for each track, but is there any way you can change pan settings on the same track?

for example, i record a 30 second guitar riff. The first 10 seconds are panned 100 perecnt to the left. The next 10 seconds are panned 100 percent to the right. The last 10 seconds are panned to the center.

is this possible?

thanks

Of course it's possible.

You need to automate the pan settings. Check out Chapter 27 in the Reference Guide (available from the help menu within the program).

Short and sweet, in the edit window, switch your track's view to "Pan" and write automation with the pencil/grabber/trim tools. You can edit it so that the change is gradual, moving over time, or set it so that it "snaps" to the other setting at a given spot on the timeline.

o WOW thanks spk, that makes things a lot easier.

and btw, what does automation mean? does it mean that you use the pencil tool to change values?

Automation: things that happen automatically. (did you even read Chapter 27?)
