Session Template is causing Unlinked files when reopened

Hi Folks, I'm using Pt's 2021.7.0 - don't chide me - I use Pt's vor voice work and I keep using what works until it doesn't!

I have a Session template that I've been using for a few years and now when I save the session and then reopen it I'm getting unlinked files. I've searched the settings and can't figure out what has changed.

Appreciate any help in advance..

How are you using the Template, through the Dashboard under the Create Tab or opening the Template and using Save As or Save Copy In?

I personally prefer to use Templates in a different way. I have a session with all of the tracks, busses, routing, etc. inside, but not saved as a template. I create a new, blank session, then Import Session Data any or all of the tracks from the template that I need into my blank session.

Thats was how I was doing it. Creating a new session and import the plugins that were set up as a group. Can't recall why I had to change from that. I'll give that a try today

Did you possible save it originally with media that has since been deleted or moved? Could try creating a session with the template, then go into the clip list and select 'all offline files' I think it is, then clear them and resave over the original template..?

Led, I stopped using the corrupted Session Template. Now I just open a new session, add the tracks from a saved " set of tracks", then I add the plugins to the main track for recording. So far I've had no files ending up unlinked.

I think that session template was corrupted. Appreciate your time and answers!

Just name the session, choose the Sample and Bit Rate if necessary and location and go. I have several Templates, but the ones I use most are for Auditions, Remote session direction via Microsoft Teams, Zoom or similar, Remote session recording via SonoBus or Source-Connect and Reading To Video with a remote producer directing. Each Template has all the Tracks, Plug-ins, Layout, Routing, I/O, Grid setting, Nudge setting, Counter setting, Busses and Sends, Pre Roll and Window Configurations needed for a particular project. I can also save any audio with a Template, but make sure the audio is in the proper folder created and on the drive it should be.

For me, this is much easier than creating a blank session, navigating to a "master" session, choosing the items to Import and then having to change any settings that can't be imported to what I need for the project.

The bad thing about digital is there's 4 ways to do everything." It's great that there's a different way that works for each person's workflow!

We have multiple rooms here and I've had a lot of weirdness over the years with disk allocations and permissions when sessions created from templates are moved to different rooms from where they were created, hence my caution.

Also, to clarify, I don't have one master session with every possible scenario built into it. I have multiple "template" sessions, one for each scenario. I import session data from the relevant session and usually just grab every single track from the template session. I would hate having to hunt and peck through an all-encompassing master session to cherrypick just the tracks and busses I wanted for the new session.

In the past I had templates like this. I don't do that much voicing to video with a director anymore. My clients are mainly TV affiliates so it's all done to the time specified. Occasionally they'll send a finished promo and I'll voice to the scratch track. If I'm going live I just use the Source connect Standard app.
