Optical SPDIF Digi 002

Hello!
One question: I've got the digi 002 rack using with a PC. I want to connect the digi 002 with a mac using optical Spdif. I've done it and its doing well. My question is: Can I hear the Optical Spdif signal without using Pro tools, without launching my pc? Like I can hear external sources via the "alt source to mon" button?
