Default A Year of Headaches - "The Selected Asio Device..."

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum, but I've been having trouble getting ProTools to work for almost a year now, so I thought it was about time I posted my problem on here.

I purchased Pro Tools 9 in December 2010, but have been unable to get it working. Each time I start up the software, I receive the message "The selected Asio audio device could not be initialized. Please select another audio device." After reading nearly every forum post about the error on Google, trying different solutions, and having certified Pro Tools users from my music college look at the problem, I still haven't been able to use the software. Here are the system specifications for my computer:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-975, quad 3.33 GHz cores, 8 MB Cache
Sound Card: Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeAudio
Video Card: 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5870
RAM: 12 GB DDR3 Memory

Here are all the things I've tried to resolve the issue:

- Installed ASIO4All v2 to use as an interface. Also tried an Mbox 2 Pro, and an old Tascam interface.

- Running ProTools on a brand new harddrive (with only ProTools and Windows 7 installed), so that there is no interference from other software or processes.

- Turned off system sounds by setting the system audio from "Default Windows" to "None."

- Installed the drivers for the interface and software in every order imaginable.

- Installed and ran Pro Tools as a system administrator.

- Updated ProTools 9 from the Avid website, as well as the latest drivers for all interfaces.

- Tried adjusting the settings in the Playback Engine dialog box.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I was thinking that the sound card might be incompatible with ProTools, but I haven't seen anything online that would say otherwise.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer!

Before installing any other sound drivers, I would install only the one for the MBox first. Leave the old Tascam and SoundBlaster out of it, especially since the SB isn't ASIO compatible to begin with. I'd say it's best to avoid ASIO4all unless you really need it. If you can get the MBox to work by itself, you can start looking at the other cards as being the problem.

Would be helpful to post a Sandra Report;

- Please - Use SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application to generate a full system profile:

www.sisoftware.co.uk

Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC.
