Protools LE on a Imac i7
anyone using a i7 with protools LE? I have to replace my macbook pro because I need more horsepower for mixing and I was wondering if I get double power with this new setup... how about FW800 and mbox pro?

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
using it and loving it. Works great, no issues.
I have an 002R, not an MBox and running a Glyph GT050Q 1.5TB external FW800/400 drive.

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
what about mixing? using 4-6 reverbs 2.3 delays and eq/comp on almost every track of a 50 track session? I'm trying to find out if I get a 50% boost from my mac book pro..

peter99, I have a older intel 1.83 duo core with only 2 gigs of ram and using verb on 10 tracks plus running 32 tracks and it's flawless.

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
not here.. I have a session with 50 tracks, URS channel strip pro an almost all of them and some special effects like drum parallel comp, some sans amp and I'm on 72% cpu power... not fun working like that - I guess with double power everything would be smooth...

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
Hmmm... wondering whether to make the transition.
I'm plagued by "DAW can't grab audio from the drives fast enough" prompts, but it only seems to be an issue when i'm pushing the CPU performance cieling of my 2.33C2D 4G RAM iMac. Got a Glyph HD, so transfer rate shouldn't be a problem. |

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
On my Imac I5 I can run 48 stereo tracks with over 400 instances of DVERB. The I7 should get over 500. I think most compatibility issues lie with the MBox though the I7 have had some also. If you get it, I recommend not doing a migration from your old mac. Just start fresh and create new accounts and reloaded all your software once OS X is completely updated.

I have an Imac I7 27" 4Go 1To
Very very great. You can Run the 48 Stereo Tracks, instruments, Plug in easy I use at the same time at 256 (Buffer) : -Superior Drummer plug in with multi out (Each parts of the drum kit in an Aux Track). -3 "Guitar Rig plug in" -Reason in Rewire. -Reverb, Delay, Compressors, multiBand.... -Expand 15% in the CPU. And I'm a bad boy, I use my internal Hard Drive

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
Oh yeah my brother is bigger than yours (he he). I have test session that has one audio, BFD full ultra, Idrum, Reason adaptive on two rewires and Albeton Live le on one rewire, Torq rewire on one and eight plug ins. 13%. BFD alone on my dual 1.25 G4 was like 30%. IT has been a massive difference. I don't know which Macbook pro he has but I am betting he'll get the 50% upgrade he is looking for. The 8 plugs (2 british eq, maxim, slightly rude, british comp, Air reverb, BF3a) run at 6%.

Re: Protools LE on a Imac i7
Might do some investigation if you're running the i7 with 8.0.3, through an MBox 2 Pro and -- this is the kicker -- connecting the MBox with s/pdif. There's a doozy of a clock source issue there. But it you're not using spdif, then you shouldn't have any trouble.
