Default Re: levels not hot enough to my console

thanks for all the help, my 888s were set to +4, I ended up just turning up the output as far as it would go to about -4, so now im getting a hot signal into my console, someone told me that 888s had a low input anyway, ive used apogee stuff , and there converters are much hotter. also thanks for the manual.......thanks jody

Someone told you wrong about the 888's levels. Apogees aren't hotter. They all should be calibrated to the same level if you want it to be right. I think you are still missing something. Can't you have a tech come over and look at it?

The mix goes out of my console into my masterlink . when i listen to it back , its really low. If i put a limiter on the whole mix and try to raise the volume, i get alot of hiss. My console is calibrated , and ive used sine signal generator in pro tools at -18 db out to my console, on my console it says -15, it should read around 0 , shouldnt it????? anyone have this problem or a solution. thanks Gould
Yup, it should read 0 on your console. As someone else suggested I would get a volt meter. With that sine wave at -18dB RMS, test the output of the 888. If it is 1.228 (I thought +4 was 1.228, not 1.223... maybe I'm wrong? Or maybe the other person meant 1.23?) Volts RMS then it is a problem within your console. I know you said your console is calibrated, but if the 888 is at 1.228 Volts and the channel on the console isn't reading 0VU, then the console is in need of a calibration adjustment.
