Default Save+Import Mixer Plugs & Levels for mixing album

you all know the situation...

you're mixing an album... You set up a basic mix for the 1st song you look at. You get everything sounding nice, drums, guitars, vox... You sort the levels & pick your plug-ins and set them to sound nice.

You then want to apply the mix settings from song 1 onto song 2 of the album... but how do you do that? What i do is write down all the plugs & levels i use on a piece of paper, then set up the mix window of the 2nd session manually. Boring, time consuming, and frustrating! Then you have to do it for the other 8 songs as well.

SURELY there has to be another way?

Surely I've somehow missed a great feature of PT 7 where you can save your mixer and import all the settings into a different session?

surely digi know that most people that work on an album will want roughly the same plugs and levels for all 10 tracks on the CD?

Surely I've just been totally stupid the last 2 years I've been using pro-tools?

Please tell me I've missed something, and that there is a way to end this misery!!

Take the song with the settings you like, save a copy, and then remove (don't delete from disk, but remove) all audio & automation from the session.

Go to your next song, use "Import Session Data" and import the tracks from the empty session you just made, then move all the audio in the session onto the tracks you just imported. Get rid of the now-empty tracks and you're ready to go.

Thanks for the help man, I've used that technique a few times since you told me about it.

But i cant help but think there should be an easier way of doing things.

If i have 10 nearly identical sessions for an album, mostly drums, bass, guitar L, guitar R and vox.

Can Pro Tools 7.1 not intelligently add plugs & fader levels to the existing tracks without the need for all the deleting then moving of audio?

Any suggestions would be great!

Import session data maybe? can't quite remember the exact things you need to do (not in front of pwo dools now), but I have done this in the past in situations like you talk about.

Make a "mix" template with all your inserts, sends, etc. and "import session data" your tracks into it. From there, you can either reassign the sends and outputs of the new tracks if necessary or drag the recorded tracks onto "template tracks" that are already routed.
