Default PT9 on mac pro. Jerky QT video playback!?

Hey,

i was trying to run PT 9 on a Mac Pro Dual Core with Mac OS X 10.6 and I wasn't able to playback ANY QT (from DV PAL to H264) smooth. There was a jerky playback in every case. So I downgraded to PT 8 again, where it is possible to disable beam synch to get rid of this jerky playback. Only some H264 aren't playing smooth in this version. As I'm going to setup a new studio with PT9 in it, I REALLY need to have a stable video playback on my second DVI monitor. Is there any way to achieve this?

best regards

Hi Sawdust,

DV will definitely be the best way to go, H264 has quite a lot overhead so will eat in to your resources. Are the video files/session files stored on a secondary internal drive, your not pulling them from the system drive?

I have the same issue. Had to go back to 8. I posted about this before with no resolution. I just need to find that thread... For me, 9 is just sluggish all around. Especially when drawing lots of automation. As music editor, I'm using a lot of mouse all the time. Those who track and use control surfaces don't seem to notice.

I have no problems with H.264 video in PT9. Just came off a movie dub were I had 160+ tracks of stems & H264 video in every session and it ran flawlessly w/PT9 even on my 2008 Macbook Pro w/Mbox2 Mini.

The only format I've had issue with is Apple Prores, Pro Tools will absolutely grind to a halt if you try and use quicktimes with that codec in your sessions.

@KMcK:

Which version of OSX is running on your systems? Guess it has to do with that...

I have been having this same issue on a 2.53GHz MacBook Pro with H264 video in PT 9.0.2, where in PT8 I had no issues at all. The only wildcard factor is the version of Pro Tools, so I have to think this is the root of the problem.
