Default Roland TR909 + MIDI

Maybe someone can set me in the right direction here....

I have a Roland TR909 -

When hooked up via MIDI (into ProTools), when I try to record a programmed track or pattern as MIDI from the 909 into the ProTools paino roll editor I just get a whole lot of garbage 909 hits, not the pattern/song itself.

Sounds like a s**t-load of patterns all playing at once and there are tonnes MIDI notes on screen....
Stuff IS being recorded - I can see it - but not the actiul apteern or song I programmed.

I'm using my standard set up as I do when recording all other outboard MIDI gear:
909 MIDI OUT --> MIDI interface IN; MIDI interface out --> 909 MIDI IN. (MIDI interface connected to Mac via USB).
909 set up as input device in MIDI control panel which shows up in the MIDI devices in the ProTools edit/mix window etc.

It's fine if I program a sequence into the piano roll editor in ProTools itself (using the 909 as a sound module) but that misses the point.
I want to hit start on the 909 and have that pattern info recorded into the ProTools MIDI grid and edit it if I wish.

I think the 909 defaults to OMNI mode (Channel 0) sending info out and channel 11 is the default receive.

I've changed the send channel and still get the same problem.

I have also set the sync to run off the internal tempo on the 909.

Anyway - it's driving me nutty.

Any ideas?
I really want to get some 909 songs down

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Default Re: Roland TR909 + MIDI

on each midi track in PTLE make sure you set your midi in to the correct channel rather than 'ALL', this way each track in pt records from it corresponding track on your 909 and not from all the tracks at once

ACK
