Default grabber tool

how do i change my grabber tool so that it only moved and does not cut highlighted audio in the mix window? in older pro tools versions, i could use the grabber to highlight audio in the mix window and move it without cutting other files below or above it.

thanks.

Your post is a little cryptic so I'm not quite sure what your question is, but I'm guessing that maybe you've enabled an edit group, which would be the only way that PT would automatically have the grabber tool changing regions on multiple tracks simultaneously, so check to make sure any groups are disabled.

If that's not it, try go into a little more detail with your post, like I said, it's not really clear what you're asking.

yes, i didn't really explain it very well and i am not sure this will be any better.

let's say i highlight audio files on two separate tracks (#1 and #2) and use the grabber tool to slide them to the left. the file on track #2 is larger but the area above it (on #1) is highlighted, even in the area were there is no audio file. when i slide the tracks to the left the highlighted area in track #1 (where there is no audio) actually *cuts* the audio file the highlighted area meets to the left instead of just leaving it un-cut...or sliding through it. probably not clear at all.

maybe a simpler way to explain it is - the grabber in pro tools 7.4 has scissors on it where as the grabber in earlier versions did not. is there any way to make it so the grabber does *not* have scissors?

thanks for your patience.

You can change the grabber mode by clicking and holding on the grabber icon at the top of the edit window and selecting "Time," "Separation" or "Object." You are most likely looking for "Time," the scissors indicate "Separation" mode. You can also toggle through the modes by hitting the F8 key multiple times.
