Default Can this be done with PT10? (Realistic Strings)

Please go to time stamp 2 min 56 seconds until 3 min 11 sec of this video and let me know if this is possible with PT10's VIs and expression capabilities.
http://youtu.be/QVyoR5osoAk?t=2m56s

Same question for this part: 17th second until 1min 20sec.
http://youtu.be/1iC24df2Pug?t=17s

also: 5min 11min to 5min 13sec
http://youtu.be/1iC24df2Pug?t=5m11s

Finally: For the life of me I can not find an example of this, but it's the effect that when an orchestra's strings are building from low notes to high notes while (in pitch bending) while the volume/expression is building higher to reach a peak. All that lasts within 1 to 3 seconds. Whatever that effect is called. Maybe crescendo or similar.

The expression options are built into the VI, not Pro Tools dependent, so yes it is possible with this VI

i think that is the key to the whole thing... it IS possible with that particular VI!...

my answer is, purchase said VI.!!..

EAST WEST makes some pretty damn amazing stuff... im' a huge fan of their Spaces Convolution Reverb...

some times you just gotta put your $ where your mouth is and man up for proper, dedicated software...

of course if you have the time, and extensive know how you can always get close using *lesser v.i.'s ,
but thats the whole point they're trying to make... now you've got this! as an option... and its plug & play
straight out of the box.!!..

That was my feeling. Hence the q.

So if Hollywood Strings is the best in strings. What other best-of can you point me towards? What's the best VI for guitars, for winds, for arpegios etc?

Yeah I know VI's for guitar sounds crazy right !!!!!
I record most of my own guitars but I did see a VI for guitar I don't remember the manufacture right now that was truly amazing

It was on the DUC somebody posted it - while talking about in the virtual instruments subform

so you might try searching there

I think at the time I was asking about a virtual instrument for pedal steel guitar which I do not play

Portamento.

Vienna has that. Pretty sure EW does too.

As for realism, for me, I draw on knowledge of the real instrument as much as possible. Thinking, how would that be played, which notes would be accented because of bowing, breathing etc... Is it a realistic part in the correct and flattering range for that particular library, etc. - paying a lot of attention to dynamics, phrasing and all other elements.

Another thing I sometimes do is use multiple VI's together. A violin section (for example) is not made up of 20 exact identical violin replicas. All playing perfectly in time and tune right... So I will blend 3 or 4 of this, 3 or 4 of that, sometimes add some human factors in - buried in the mix - less than perfect time and tune for ex.

Also one of the things that really helps create realism is creating the room. The right choice and amount of verb can make a huge difference. Often I will send a pre fader signal to the verb and control the presence of an instrument by blending the dry signal to taste.

Panning as the sections would be sitting in the Orch from L-R and front/back etc. also huge...

After all of that, if your lucky you have something that sounds fairly close... I find it still very hard to do. Hence the term mock up.

Just some thoughts...

Strings: I prefer LASS (LA Session Strings) to Hollywood Strings.
I have both, and rarely use Hollywood.

Guitar: Personally, I have no real need for a guitar VI, but I have a couple.
I haven't come across one that's remarkable.
I have MachFive Telematic, and Rob Papen's RG (which is actually kind of cool).
There's a bunch of guitars in EWQL's Ministry of Rock and The Dark Side too, and I never use them either.

Winds: Hollywood Woodwinds are said to be quite good.
The stuff in EWQL's Sympnonic Orchestra collection is pretty good.
MOTU Symphonic Instument is pretty decent, and priced right.

Arpeggios: Not sure what you mean. Most samplers have arpeggiators. I use MachFive, Omnisphere, Kontakt, etc.
I really like CamelSpace by Camel Audio for arp and seq effects as well.
