Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
True. Lots of PC HD systems have the flex cables bending the other way due t the pci order on the motherboard. Works fine.

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
This might be old news, but I just flipped from a Digi Exp chassis/G5 to a nice 8 core Intel with the PE6R4, with 6 cards. The drill goes this way:
The slots in the PE6R4 are numbered right on the motherboard (4 was the lowest number). Start at the lowest # for the core card, and proceed from there with the accel cards first, others after (if you have room). Of course, coming from the Digi chassis, my cards were connected going from left to right. Now they are going right to left. So, I must switch the jumper cable between each card. The proper sequence is B>A, B>A, B>A, etc, starting with the core card. This should wake things up properly. Anyone want a Digi Chassis /cable/cards for cheap? |

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
Hi all,
This is really doing my head in.. I hve a new magma Pe6r4 I and have tried both ways of connecting the cards. I have double checked that the flex cables are correct, and even tried reversing them. I have tried with just my 192 connected and also with my SSL delta link madi connected too. I either get the -6004 error, cannot communicate with hardware, or error saying the flex cables are attached wrong. This is on a fresh install of 9 on a 2008 quad xeon on 10.6.5 Help!!! Thanks, Paul |

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
Have you tried moving the Magma host card to the 4th slot in the Mac Pro?

Hi Keith,
Thanks - yes I do have the magma card in slot 4. I've checked the expansion slot utility and it is reporting the correct setup. I'm at my wits end! Any other ideas? Thanks for you help. Paul |

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
Have you tried called Magma? Their customer service is pretty good from what I've heard. I've dealt with them via email and resolved questions pretty fast.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've just checked their website FAQ and I need to check the dip switches on the host card are set to 4 not 8 - there's actually some useful bits there so I'll work my way through those troubleshooting tips before calling them!
Thanks |

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
The newer cards have the dip switch fixed so don't be alarmed if yours is as well. I had a major headache with setting mine up too. Once I got it's been rock solid ever since.
Good luck

Re: Magma PE6R4-I Setup Question
1. Pro Tools Installation in Magma PE6R4-I:
Install the core card next to the slot that has TAPE on it. This is the slot labeled as slot#10. Install the Core card to the slot labeled as slot#9. Here is a video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izzVUk1rpzQ For Accel or Process cards, go to this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFtMZ0obZUE Please do connect the Protools ribbon flex cable correctly, it should be connected from port B of Core card to port A of Acce/ Process card. Same thing with Accel to Accel card, B to A. 2. Magma Host card installation: Make sure to set the SW1 Dip switches on the host card to X4 mode Here is a video tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDqQ9qBwGD4 Use this formula: X4 mode = install the Magma host card to slot that runs at X4. When the host card is working, it would show One Green 4 RED LEDs X8 mode = move host card to slot that runs at X8 or beyond. When the host card is working, it would show One Green LED and 6 RED LEDs Questions, concerns or further assistance let me know. |
