Default 8.0.4 hang/semi-crash

I am running an 8 core Mac 10.6.4 12gb ram/w/ PT 8.04 D-Control w/all the proper updates. Runs GREAT, except every once in a while (not quite daily), the D-Control will show the "ProTools has a dialog on screen Enter/Escape" across the D Control, and nothing I do can either escape or enter (there's nothing "on screen" to escape or enter). I can close the session gracefully (although it asks me if I want to save the changes - even after I have saved the changes! ), but I must 3 finger salute the PTs application to get out. No Mac restart necessary, just relaunch PT & I can roll on.

Anything I can do to avoid this error? It happens while I'm away from the console, and it happens while I'm editing/mixing.

Have you tried using command+~ to cycle through open windows in Pro Tools?

Do you have your system set to go to sleep?

Can you give us any more info that may help us in determining the source of the problem? Have you trashed prefs? Are all plug-ins up to date?

If you can zip up your Log Files folder (from inside your Pro Tools folder) directly after this problem occurs and send them to me at : vi [at] digidesign [dot] com, I'll take a look to see if they have any clues.

System set to never sleep/no screen saver.

Yes, rotated through windows looking for a dialog box - none visible.

Plugs all new/updated installs - very few running when the problem occurs.

Have not trashed prefs recently - but will try that between sessions.

I will send the log files next time it occurs - thanks.

Collyer -

The logs are inconclusive, but I DO see some incompatible plug-ins installed.

You should update the Sony/Sonnox, SoundToys and Vocalign plug-ins to the minimum versions listed here:

Looks like the same thing as this (these) which we see pretty often here (with compatible plug-ins, btw). Probably the most common bugs we see.
