Default First week of PT 9.0.2.

After starting with PT 9.0.2. about a week ago I'm quickly getting used to the workflow and I'm already getting some serious work done.

But, there's a few things I've run into that don't seem possible yet and I was wondering if there's any idea if and when this will be made possible?

- Continuous recording of MIDI and Automation when loop recording. This seems to be a serious no go. I would expect a continuous recording, but instead each loop the recording restarts. I sometimes even lose connection with the fader. And if you play a little ahead of time your basically out of luck. Recording automation is also a bit of a bummer, when recording automation of a filter cutoff I usually have several passes of automation recorded. But with PT it's kind of frustrating as the recording is reset on each loop.

- Faster then real-time bounce. Although I realize this isn't likely to happen soon. But having only-realtime is getting a real workflow killer in certain stages.

- Bounce instrument parts. I often program drums, or record instruments in midi. Regularly I bounce these to audio to do some further processing, glitching and cutting up samples. But unlike many other DAWs I have to actually record the audio ouput of my VSTs. It would be great to have PT automatically create an audio part in a single click. Much like Logic's bounce in place or Studio One's bounce instrument parts.

- Bounce stems. Quite regularly I collaborate with friends and have them do remixes or re-edits. A feature that I'm really missing and that seems to be somewhat of a hassle to workaround is the possibility to bounce stems. It's pretty much inline with the Bounce Instrument Parts.

Thanks guys ;-) And just to be clear, I really like PT. Just missing some things that would make it even better.

If you don't want to bounce VI's, insert them on an audio track rather than an instrument track (instant record) then just move the VI onto a new audio track to do another part if necessary.

Or if you have a good computer you should be able to create multiple instances (separate midi tracks) of VI's (each with their own corresponding channels to audio tracks) for separate parts.

Thanks, great tip. Especially useful when the plugins have their own build-in sequencer.

Sure you can bounce midi instrument parts quite quick.
It will still bounce in real time though.

1. Select the the region(s) you want to bounce and solo the track.

2. Press Apple+alt+B to bring up bounce window.

3. Select correct format. (Multiple mono if you bouncing a stereo instrument.)
And also the bit and sample rate you working with.

4. Tick the box "import after bounce"

5. Click bounce and name the file (it will be saved in the audio files folder by
default.

6. Click save and it will start bounce.

7. After that you will be asked if you want to import the bounced track to a new
track or to the region list. Select new track and select "selection" from the
drop menu.

8. Click ok and pro tools will create a new audio track with your bounce and
put it it the right place where you made the selection.

9. Make the bounced instrument track inactive and hide it if you want.

Its quite quick

If you are using multi output's VI's you can see that the VI multi output appears in the INPUT of an audio track.

Just create a audio track for each Multi-output you have conf, if you have input monitoring thats great, you can listen right away without recording, if not just record it. any change you make just punch in/out that part and voilá the changed part is in place.

When you don't need to the VI anymore, just disable the track and hide it and use the audio track for mixing.

regards,

Marco

Cool, thanks for the responses guys (and girls ? :-D ) I'll try it this weekend. Having serious stability issues on Windows 7 x64 at the moment...

Its not "quite quick" if your instrument plays throughout a 4 minute song.

State of PT for this kind of thing is ridiculous in 2011.
